Remedial / Deep Tissue
massage to support release
Thoughtful, body-led work to support tension, pain and restricted movement
Remedial / Deep Tissue Massage uses slow, steady, intentional pressure to work into deeper layers of muscle and connective tissue. It’s designed to release long-held tension, improve movement, and support areas of the body that feel tight, sore, or restricted.
At AB Massage Studio in Belfast, Christchurch, this treatment is offered in a quiet, private, and nurturing space, where sessions are never rushed and always tailored to what your body needs on the day.
More than “deep pressure”
While this treatment can involve deep work, it’s not about pushing through pain. Deep tissue massage is most effective when the body feels safe enough to let go.
Some clients come in asking for strong pressure — and I can absolutely work deeply when appropriate. Often, though, we discover that the body also needs gentler, more supportive work alongside deeper techniques to recover properly and create lasting change.
Your session may include a blend of:
Deep, focused pressure
Slower, grounding strokes
Supportive techniques to calm the nervous system
This balanced approach helps your body release tension without bracing or overwhelm.
Who this treatment is suited for
Remedial / Deep Tissue Massage is ideal if you:
Live a busy, active life and carry ongoing tension or stress
Experience tight shoulders, sore backs, headaches, jaw tension, or general body pain
Train, exercise regularly, or are preparing for events and need support with recovery and mobility
Feel like your body doesn’t bounce back the way it used to
Are dealing with recurring pain linked to old injuries, posture, stress, or long-held patterns
I also work with clients navigating:
Post-surgical recovery (such as hip or shoulder replacements)
Ongoing inflammation or acute, recurring pain
Cancer recovery, including post-chemotherapy or post-surgical care (e.g. breast reduction, tummy tuck), with a gentle, respectful approach
Each session is adapted carefully to your circumstances, energy levels, and comfort.
What to expect from your session
Your session takes place in a calm, unrushed, private studio in Christchurch, where you have time to be listened to and taken seriously. Communication is clear throughout the treatment, and pressure is always guided by your body rather than a preset routine.
Some people come simply wanting an hour that is just for them - no responsibilities, no explaining, just space to breathe and be cared for. Others are curious about why the same pain keeps returning and want to understand their bodies better. Both are welcome here.
Frequently Asked Questions

Not necessarily … but it can feel intense at times. Everyone has a different pain tolerance, and if your body is holding a lot of tension or restriction, some areas may feel quite tense or uncomfortable.
The key is communication.Only you can feel what’s happening in your body, you're the only one with your nerve receptors. Please don’t be shy about telling me what feels okay and what doesn’t. We can adjust pressure, pace, or technique at any point so the massage stays supportive and effective, not overwhelming.

This usually becomes clearer after your first session, once we see how your body responds. Every body is different, some people feel relief after one session, while others benefit from a short series or regular care. We’ll talk it through and find what feels most supportive for you.
